What's Your Opinion On 'Ban On Crackers'..

PIL Lodged Against Sale And Use Of Crakers During Diwali

After the ban of crackers in the state of Delhi, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed before the High Court of Orissa on Wednesday against the sale and use of firecrackers and explosive materials during the festival season of Diwali. The PIL has been filed by Surendra Panigrahi, who is the president of Bharatiya Bikash Parishad in Berhampur.

The PIL appealed the court to ban the use of crackers as they produce different kinds of dangerous gases and damage the environment. The harmful gases often cause several health problems to the people, it added.

Further, the PIL said that most of the people in Odisha are addicted to alcohol and use the crackers in a dangerous manner under the effect of alcohol which causes many accidents and loss of the life and property of the people.

The PIL said that Diwali was a festival of lights and hence the celebration of festival be limited only to lighting the lamps. The PIL requested the court to cancel the cracker sale licenses in the state and ban the usage of crackers as well. The Odisha High Court is yet to take the case in to hear.
