Yeddyurappa to be sworn in but Supreme Court asks for the letter he wrote to the Karnataka Governor. Full details here
After a marathon hearing that was allowed at about 1 am, commenced at 2 am and concluded at 5:30 am, the Supreme Court refused to stay the planned oath-taking of the BJP's BS Yeddyurappa as Chief Minister of Karnataka at 9:30 am on Thursday.
However, after hearing the arguments of Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for the petitioners G Parameshwara of the Congress and Kumaraswamy of the JD(S), and Attorney General KK Venugopal, appearing for the Centre, the three-member apex court bench did ask for the letter written by Yeddyurappa to the Karnataka Governor staking a claim to form a government in the state. The Governor had mentioned this letter while inviting Yeddyurappa to form a government.
